On the closure list the Hollywood Partnership keeps, the block of Hollywood Boulevard between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive comes up again and again. Between October 21 and November 30, that block in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre has some kind of closure on 17 of the 41 calendar days. The days aren't spread out. They come in three bursts: AFI Fest and a special event in late October, a pair of back-to-back premieres in mid-November, and Thanksgiving weekend, when a street concert hands off to the Hollywood Christmas Parade.
That pattern helps if you live nearby. The closures start at one block, and on the biggest day they spread outward on a published timetable. So a resident can plan by hour as well as by date.
The first burst: late October
AFI Fest is listed as closing westbound Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange from 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, through Sunday, October 25. The north sidewalk in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre closes every evening for arrivals, and pedestrians can use a temporary walkway in the curb lane before and after. A second listed special event closes the same westbound stretch from 6 a.m. October 27 through the end of October 28, and the north sidewalk closes at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th.
The Partnership's alert list shows nothing more on that block until November 14. That leaves about two weeks open, starting with Halloween weekend.
The open weekend: Halloween
On Friday, October 30, the Partnership's event calendar lists My Chemical Romance: Devil's Night & Halloween at 7 p.m., The Who's Tommy at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre at 8 p.m., Vampire Saloon Halloween at Desert 5 Spot at Hollywood VOLUME at 9 p.m. and Hellraiser Halloween at Boardners at 10 p.m. The Highland-to-Orange block has no closure listed for Halloween weekend, so a night out that Friday or Saturday doesn't have to work around premiere barricades.
If you want dinner before a show that weekend, Gable is new at the Hollywood Roosevelt, 7000 Hollywood Blvd., in the space Shirley Brasserie used to hold. Eater LA's October review describes Korean-influenced live-fire cooking, including a bulgogi-kimchi pizza and family-style branzino.
Mid-November: two premieres join into almost six days
This is the closure most likely to catch people off guard, because the two listings overlap and read as one. The first premiere fully closes Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange from 6 p.m. Saturday, November 14, until 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 17. The second premiere's full closure of the same block starts at 12:01 a.m. on the 17th, about 15 hours before the first one ends, and runs until 5 p.m. Friday, November 20. Together that's close to six straight days of full closure, both directions, with no gap in the middle.
The sidewalk rules change from day to day inside that window, so here they are in order:
- November 14 to 17: the mid-block crosswalk between Highland and Orange is fully closed.
- November 16, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.: the north sidewalk is closed between the Awards Walk and Orange.
- November 17 to 20: the easternmost part of the north curb parking lane on Hawthorn Avenue between Highland and Orange is also closed.
- November 19, 12:01 a.m. to 10 p.m.: both sidewalks on the block are open to pedestrians only, with no street vendors. Parts of the south sidewalk close from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- November 19, 6 a.m., to November 20 at noon: the mid-block crosswalk is closed again.
If you usually cross at mid-block, plan on the corners at Highland or Orange for most of that week. If you park on Hawthorn, keep an eye on that north curb lane from the 17th.
Thanksgiving weekend: one event hands off to the next
The third burst is the biggest, and it starts east of the usual block. The Partnership lists a street concert, named only as "Street Concert," that fully closes Hollywood Boulevard between Cahuenga Avenue and Vine Street from 5 p.m. Friday, November 27, until 5 a.m. Sunday, November 29. It also closes Ivar Avenue for about 300 feet south and 210 feet north of the boulevard, and Cosmo Avenue for about 100 feet south. Both sidewalks on that stretch close from 3 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m.
The parade's own closures start while the concert is still running. The parade's 2026 road closure page closes Hollywood Boulevard between Orange and Highland at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, November 28, and keeps it closed until 6 a.m. Monday. Orange closes from Hollywood Boulevard south to the alley north of Hawthorne on the same schedule. Sycamore from Franklin to Hollywood Boulevard closes even earlier, at 11 p.m. Friday, and stays closed through all of Sunday.
So for most of Saturday, two separate stretches of the boulevard are closed at once, one at each end of the parade route. The route itself starts at Hollywood and Orange, runs east to Vine, turns south on Vine to Sunset, and comes back west on Sunset to Orange.
Parking is the earliest deadline. "No Parking" signs go up along the routes starting Thursday, November 26, which is Thanksgiving Day. Enforcement starts Saturday, November 28, and runs until Monday morning, November 30. Parking on Sycamore between Franklin and Hollywood Boulevard is off-limits Saturday and Sunday. If your car usually sits on any of those curbs, move it Friday night.
Parade Sunday, hour by hour
On Sunday, November 29, the closures spread outward from the Highland-to-Orange block in waves. This is the parade's posted schedule:
| Start | What closes | Reopens |
|---|---|---|
| 6:00 a.m. | Hollywood Blvd. from La Brea to Orange | 10:00 p.m. |
| 1:00 p.m. | Hawthorne, De Longpre and Fountain, all from La Brea to Highland | 9:00 p.m. |
| 1:00 p.m. | El Cerrito Place from Franklin to Hollywood Blvd. | 8:00 p.m. |
| 1:00 p.m. | Sycamore and Orange, both from Franklin to Santa Monica | 9:00 p.m. |
| 1:00 p.m. | Sunset Blvd. from La Brea to Highland | about 10:00 p.m. |
| 2:00 p.m. | Fountain Ave. from La Brea to Highland | 10:00 p.m. |
| 3:00 p.m. | 101 off-ramps at Cahuenga, both directions, plus the southbound Vine off-ramp | 10:00 p.m. |
| 4:00 p.m. | Northbound La Brea from Hollywood to Sunset | about 9:00 p.m. |
| 4:00 p.m. | Highland Ave. from Franklin to Santa Monica | about 10:00 p.m. |
| 4:00 p.m. | Hollywood Blvd. from Highland to Gower | 9:00 p.m. |
| 4:00 p.m. | Vine St. from Franklin to Santa Monica | 9:00 p.m. |
| 4:00 p.m. | Sunset Blvd. from Highland to Gower | about 10:00 p.m. |
The 3 p.m. freeway closure matters most for anyone driving home. If you come back from out of town on the 101 that afternoon, the Cahuenga exits and the southbound Vine exit are closed from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. The parade's official advice is to use Metro as much as possible that weekend.
Some details aren't public yet. The official parade site confirms Sunday, November 29, 2026, but still lists the grand marshal as TBA and says performers are "coming soon." For reference only, the 2025 parade started at 6 p.m. on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, on the same U-shaped route. Treat that as last year's time until the 2026 start time is posted.
The Sunday morning window
The Hollywood Farmers' Market falls right inside the parade's U-shaped route. Food Access LA lists its hours as Sundays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1600 Ivar Ave. at Selma. It's a two-block walk from the B Line's Hollywood/Vine station, and bus routes 180, 2/302, 210, 217 and 222 stop nearby.
Set those hours against the closures. The concert closure on Ivar near Hollywood Boulevard is scheduled to lift at 5 a.m. Sunday, three hours before the market opens. The parade's 1 p.m. closures start just as the market closes, and Vine doesn't close until 4 p.m. The one early closure, Hollywood Boulevard west of Orange at 6 a.m., is on the far side of Highland. On paper, a Sunday morning trip to Ivar and Selma fits ahead of the afternoon closures. The market's listing doesn't show any holiday changes, so check with the market that week before you go.
Plans change, and premiere dates especially can move. The Hollywood Partnership's street closure page is updated as new filming, premiere and event closures are added. Check it before you plan any errand, guest visit or ride home near Highland and Orange this November.
